An ice-cold women's kick that honours a memorable Nineties ad
The sneaker community has a soft spot for greyscale Air Jordan 4s, from 2017’s ‘pure money’ to 2021’s ‘white oreo’, 2022’s ‘military black’ to the latest AJ4 release, set to drop this weekend: ‘frozen moments’. But this new monochromatic four arrives with one major caveat: it is, according to Nike, a women’s shoe.
'So what?' you ask. Well, that's the right attitude. But it also means that it’s exclusively available in sizes up to a women’s UK 9.5, which equates to a men's UK 8, meaning people with bigger feet will have no choice but to sit this one out.
Still reading? We assume you’re either: a) blessed with sample size flippers or b) on the lookout for some kicks for someone who is. Either way, we couldn’t recommend the ‘frozen moments’ enough. It’s a clean, versatile and tasteful take on one of the most seminal sneakers in existence, and, better yet, is inspired by a genuinely memorable juncture in Jordan Brand’s history.
In case you're not conversant with the Nike subline's past, we're referring to the ‘Frozen Moments’ television ad from 1997 that famously emphasised MJ’s prowess on the basketball court through the use of slow motion.
Playing on the ad’s name, Jordan Brand has elected for snowy shades of white and grey leather and suede to build the colourway, disrupted only by metallic silver lacing components and a black substructure that add a biting edge to the otherwise soft and delicate design.
Each pair arrives in classic AJ4 packaging – that’s a red Jumpman Flight motif-adorned lid and a grey cement-patterned bottom – and comes with no extra laces (they arrive pre-laced with a flat white pair) or accessories.
The Air Jordan 4 ‘frozen moments’ drops on Saturday 26 August for £190. To be in with a chance of grabbing a pair for retail price, participate in raffles on End, Footlocker, SNS, Footpatrol and Naked.
Alternatively, you can cop a pair right now for a resale price from either StockX or The Edit Ldn.
