Cicero, N.Y. — Aerial spraying over the Cicero Swamp area on Thursday evening has been cancelled, according the Onondaga County Health Department.

The winds were greater than 7 mph which means the spraying cannot be done, health department officials said.

The spraying is now planned after 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The spraying is a response to batches of mosquitoes testing positive this month with Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus, which can sometimes lead to deadly inflammation of the brain. Mosquitoes were also found with West Nile Virus.

The spraying originally was first planned for Monday, but bad weather conditions pushed it back.

The spray area is bounded by Route 31 to the north, Northern Boulevard to the west, Taft Road to the south and the county line to the east.

Kontrol 30-30 is the pesticide that will be used. More information about the pesticide is available on the county’s website.
